Feet

Today we continued our Body theme and specifically FEET. The children seem to love the theme idea and also continue to pick Montessori works off the shelf.
We did not have as long a work period today as Snow White had her first French preschool class this morning, and the other 2 children napped longer than usual, but I am still very happy with what the children accomplished! They love to work!
We talked about feet and all the different things we can do with our feet. The children practiced marching, jumping, tapping, running, going on tip toes, dancing, etc.
We read a bunch of books about feet including Dr. Seuss’ Foot Book and Big Sara’s Little Boots.
We practiced left and right again today by using some drawings of shoes I made on card stock, the children loved this activity.

The children also practiced walking quietly on the line.

I also presented a new activity. Matching and rolling socks. This proved to be difficult, but the children kept wanting to try. I could see the determination Snow White had with this work!

The children also seemed to enjoy the parts of a paintbrush work. I drew a picture of a paintbrush, labeled it and cut out matching pieces for them to put in the correct place. (I am often surprised at what the children choose and love. I was not planning on introducing this today, but I am sure glad I did!)

We also did a few rhymes & poems and acted them out. A favorite was” the cow jumped over the moon”!
I had wanted to do some foot tracing and foot stamping using tempera paint & dish soap, but we will have to try that another day!

* Many of my ideas and themes come from the NCM Guides. I use these more for book ideas, crafts and activities to fill in time but I try to always follow the lead of the child and use the 7 periods from David Gettman’s Book as a guide in what to present to the child at certain times. Many of the lessons I present come from the NAMC guides.

What great ideas. I love your matching and rolling the socks project. Most importantly, your child enjoys it- so follow the child. Enjoyed reading the Montessori quotes. God bless you- Ditahttp://www.bead-z-mommys-business.comhttp://www.alankarshilpa.blogspot.comhttp://www.alankarshilpa.etsy.com
