The Flowering Cross by Beth Ryan

For this weeks Fun Friday I decided that this would be the perfect post! This book was fun to read as a family especially with Easter coming up!

What a beautifully illustrated and touching story for children. Katie is a young girl with a kind heart. Katie and her family show kindness and love to their “grouchy” neighbor, Mean Old Jack.  Through these acts of kindness Mean Old Jack becomes Papa Jack to Katie and her brother. Although he begins to warm up to the family and lets them pick flowers in his beautiful garden, it takes time before he decided to take up an invitation and goes to church with them on Easter. Not only does he go to church with them, but he accepts a bible from Katie and accepts the Saviors love for him.

Papa Jack even starts a tradition in the neigborhood. All the children pick flowers in his beautiful garden every Easter. The cross sits on the family table for the Easter meal and reminds Papa Jack how one special little girl led him to the cross and Jesus’ love for him!

I LOVED this book and would recommend it to others! Even though it is a childrens book I can see it being a book we read together every Easter. It’s a book the whole family can enjoy!
