Get Out Tough Stains- Laundry Tips

Well the weather is warming up the snow is melting and if your kids are anything like mine along with warmer weather also comes EXTRA LAUNDRY!
There are so many neat tips out there to remove almost anything and everything from clothing- so to make Laundry day a little less frustrating for other mom’s I thought I’d share some of my favorite tips to keep your clothing bright, clean and stain free. Here are a few of my favorite tips

To Remove:

Mustard– pre-treat with lemon juice before washing

Sweat Stains– Soak in salt water overnight or baking soda with a little water to make a paste apply to stain- wash as usual

Grass Stains– rub undiluted hair shampoo into the stain or spread butter on the stain, and lay the article in hot sunshine. then launder as usual

Ballpoint pen marks– saturate the spot with hair spray, and allow to dry. Then brush lightly with a solution of vinegar and water.

Grease Stains– dampen the stain with salt dissolved in ammonia.  Blot and rinse- and wash as usual

Fruit Stains– run boiling water through the fabric and it will magically disappear

Rust Stains– Lemon juice and salt will remove ordinary iron rust

Blood– Use cold water, then soap and cold water.

Gum– Place garment in the freezer once frozen flake off the frozen gum. To remove the sticky residue soak in undiluted vinegar for 10 to 15 minutes before washing, then launder as usual.

Crayon– Soak in boiling water, then wash in washer as hot as the fabric will allow

Diaper Rash Cream– Fill a sink with hot water and grease fighting dish soap, and soak it. Then gently rub the fabric together over the spot to remove the oil in the cream. Next, empty the sink and refill with white vinegar, soaking the garment for 15 minutes to remove the zinc oxide. Then wash as normal. The diaper rash cream will be gone!

Other neat tips:

  • Increase the life of your bathing suit by soaking your bathing suit in a sink of water and 1 tablespoon of baking soda before washing. This will remove the chlorine and help it maintain it’s elasticity.
  • To prevent dark clothing such as dark jeans from fading and streaking, turn them inside out and throw them in the washing machine filled with cold water and 1 cup of vinegar.  This will “set” the color and prevent streaking.
  • To prevent colored fabrics from running, add a little salt to your washer when washing
  • To remove deodorant marks from clothing you want to wear- grab a pair of pantyhose rub gently and it will remove the deodorant easily.

So do you have any laundry tips that you use and like to share? I’d love to hear your ideas.
