Numbered Comments

Many blogs these days do contests & giveaways and it can be very handy to have numbered comments to keep track of the number entries and select a winner. I have found a a very simple way to number your comments- here’s how you do it:

Go to Layout>Edit HTML in your dashboard. Check the “Expand widget templates” box. Now hit ctrl+F this will bring up a search bar.


Now put this line of code in the search bar:
<b:loop values=’data:post.comments’ var=’comment’>

and add this code just BEFORE the line above
<script type=’text/javascript’>var CommentsCounter=0;</script>

Now search for this line:
<b:if cond=’data:comment.authorUrl’>

Add this code just BEFORE the line above
<script type=’text/javascript’> CommentsCounter=CommentsCounter+1; document.write(CommentsCounter+”.”) </script>

Click on Preview. If your blog runs without any errors then, your are done. Save the template.
