Competition at it’s Finest

by Carly

My Husband and I are pretty competitive with each other. in the silliest way. I think for my husband it started when he won his kindergarten Pac man champion at his school. Yes I have seen the certificate it was a real thing. Can you imagine kids playing video games in school now?  So funny.

When my husband and I were dating we liked to play basketball but not like the full out game. We played a came called Horse, Where one person shoots a basket anywhere he or she wants if the person makes it the other person has to make the exact shot if the person misses the shot that you made he gets a Letter till you have spelled Horse. Well I turned this game into who can embarrass the other person more, and instead of just shooting the basket I would do a skit or a Dance or sing and then throw a really close up shot so I knew it would go into the basket. I loved watching my then boyfriend try to copy my silliness with a bright red face. how I relished these moments. Even though he would always end up winning. he is 6ft3 and when it was his turn to make the baskets his three pointers would swish right in. So not fair.

Throughout our 8 years of marriage it has been various skillful challenges. Who can make it from here to there fastest. Who can shoot the most garbage can baskets who can catch the most grapes in there mouth and so on. There are probably so many silly competitions that we have had. I wish I could remember them all.

As of now we are hooked on competing in different iphone games currently there is one called fruit Ninja you have to cut a bunch of fruit with the swipe of your finger there is a time limit it is very technical people. When my husband has the high score he is pretty vocal about it calling himself the fruit ninja champion. But as of right now I have the high score This is a big deal and I am loving it.

I think it has been a fun part of our marriage to be silly with each other. Ya know in this bad economy when you don’t have a lot of money to travel the road or have a lot of expensive big toys like boats and ATV’s I think a game of who can throw the most shoes in the basket by your door is a good alternative. Besides I think even if you do have some of the finer things in life it is always the little things you remember doing together that matter the most.

What fun games or fond memories do you have of being silly with your spouse or family?

Honey: I agree that you have to find fun where you can. Life can get pretty boring otherwise!

Heidi: I don't think the extra credit thing is fair either LOL

Joyful Learner: That could be a problem you'll have to let him win sometimes lol

Crystal: Teasing can be fun as well! Especially if it's about something that makes you both laugh

Thanks for all the comments!

My husband is a perfectionist, so competing for him is more like a personality trait than anything. I lose interest in games and contests very easily, so we don't compete there. We do however tease each other mercilessly when the opportunity presents itself. Keeps the doldrums out of marriage!

My problem is I always win which makes him feel not too happy.

This made me laugh! My hubby and I were in different sections of the same math course in college and the professor got a kick out of our competetive streak. By the end of the year, she was comparing our test scores before we were!

(I still say it isn't really fair if he only beat me because of extra credit...)

There is nothing wrong with a little healthy competition. It sounds like you have a lot of fun. You need to find fun where you can, especially if you have no money.
