The Imperfect Mom

by Carly

I have never been one of those moms that have it all together, you know the ones I am talking about. Kids in perfect clothes not a hair on there head misplaced, matching shoes, shorts, shirt, and hair accessory’s. never a stain from breakfast adorning their clothes.

It’s not that my kids don’t ever look cute and clean. they just don’t normally stay that way for long periods of time. My mom has a saying on one of her walls that says, “It all comes out in the wash” To me it means not to worry about the small things. It will work out in the end. Much like the stains on my kid’s clothes.

So It did not surprise me the other day when I looked at my 1 year old in the late afternoon and realized I had dressed her in pajama bottoms that morning.

I make mistakes and am constantly learning. With learning comes mistakes. It never ceases to amaze me how different each one of my children are. They are complete individuals. I love that I know there little quirks. I know that my 4 year old does not like her jeans high on her waste which creates a permanent plumber look no matter how many times I try to pull them up. I love that my 7 year old likes me to start her apple for her because her two front teeth have not quite grown in. I also love how my 1 year old pulls on my arm to get my attention when she wants me to see something her cute little fingers are pointing at. I would not trade this knowledge for the world.

I worry so much what kind of people they are going to grow up to be. Will I have taught them everything they need to know? probably not, I don’t think that is possible. Hopefully they will know how much I enjoyed being their imperfect mom.

Well said...my kids aren't always perfectly put together either. I want them to remember laughing and having good conversations with me, not me yanking their hair to perfection or nagging them all the time!

Its the imperfections that make all of it worth remembering. Kids wouldn't as fun if they were "perfect" all the time <3
