A different kind of date night

Before my husband and I were married I remember what our dates were like.

Great restaurants, movies, and fun activities were the norm. We tried to be clever in our dates and had so much fun getting to know each other. After we were married there were a lot of new expenses to worry about but I still remember actual dates.

Fast forward to now. Date nights are a whole new story. Dates takes planning and energy and a lot of work to go out for a simple dinner.
Finding baby sitters for our three daughters is no trouble as both grandma’s live close and they love to see their cute grand kids. It’s just everything that goes into it. You know, dropping the kids off, making sure they have everything they need, picking them up and taking them home way past their bedtime and carrying their sleep heavy bodies up the stairs -feeling like you just ran a marathon.

My husband and I have recently tried a different kind of date. It is simple, affordable, and hardly any of the above energy required. We put the girls to bed and put in a movie. I make a treat or sometimes my husband gets takeout and we just relax. I even get a little cheesy and officially ask him out on one of our home dates some times. Not being the spry energetic youngsters we once were it is a nice alternative. It is true that both of us are usually snoring by the end of the movie, but it does not matter. There are no kid’s to go pick up as they are snuggled in their beds and we still feel like we spent time together enjoying each others company.

Don’t get me wrong I still love an actual traditional date night  it’s fun to get dressed up and go somewhere without the kids, but as we get older and things get crazier. The more simpler the better.

How have your date nights changed since having kids?

The Education Of Ours

We are pretty lame, but I don't care; I love it! We get a netflix each weekend and watch all the movies we missed in the newborn stages. It's kind of fun to finally catch up on entertainment. Plus, its nearly free. There's usually icecream....

We try to go on a date once a week while our daughter spends time with grandma and grandpa. Everyone wins!

My husband and I love a night in as well. It's nice to just put on pajama pants and a swear shirt and snuggle while we watch a movie. Although it is always fun to get out once in a while too. We have a hot tub so our favorite thing to do is get the kids to sleep and go for a dip in the hot tub. We can actually have a conversation about our days without the kids interupting.

We used to go out to dinner and/or movies all the time. We knew that would stop when we had kids so not long after we had our first daughter we bought a projector and a great big screen. We don't usually see movies until they come to redbox but once they do we still get the big screen experience while on a little home-date while the kids are snuggled in bed. We still try to get out once in a while with a sitter and the whole bit but more often than not we have a calm night in.

Oh, how the times have changed! We like to spice it up by trying a new recipe AND a movie!! We find that we also like to stay in and just be together. We are lucky because we live in a small town, so should we want to get out we can walk to many great restaurants...but sometimes a little snuggle time on the couch is just as nice!
