Saying Goodbye

One of the hardest things about attending conferences or events is saying goodbye to my husband and little girls.

As soon as the hugs and kisses are done and I have to walk through security the flood gates open…and the tears start flowing.

On my last trip, Kate told me that I didn’t have to cry. She told me she had a solution. Kate said that I should take a picture of her and her sister blowing me kisses and then they would both give me a “kissing hand”. I love the little problem solver in her. As I walked through security I turned back to wave. I forced myself to smile and stay strong, but as soon as they were out of site…the tears came.

The bond that moms have with their children is strong. Even though there are days that we feel like pulling our hair out or raise our voice because we have repeated ourselves a hundred times, we love those kids. I’m thankful for the chances I get to go away, it makes me appreciate my children so much more.

What do you think? Do you have a hard time leaving your children?

As a teacher, I start school before them. It is hard. They wait for me all day, and I miss them. Sniff sniff. I'll be fine when our routine gets going. Change is hard!

I generally don't have problems leaving my children. However, I'll be starting a full time position this Tuesday and that could very well be hard with school coming up. I'm so used to walking my kids to the bus stop, picking them up and hearing all about their day while it's still fresh in their minds. Now ... I wont be able to.

But I love your daughter's idea and they look precious in that picture :)

Great post! I only recently understand what you mean. As I head back to work after 11 months with my baby boy (my first so far), I find it very hard. I love the little guy and want to be with him every waking moment. When he goes to bed I wish to see and be with him, ha ha ha. Crazy i know cause most parents can not wait for their children to go to bed, not me, i miss him when it is bed time! :)

Hey Jessica, I totally relate. I always go into the girls rooms after they fall asleep and just watch them...I kiss their little faces and rub their backs and just feel like squeezing them and never letting go....it's nice to know I'm not the only one who feels this way! Smiles, Jody

Oh, she is so sweet! What a great idea. I have a hard time leaving the kids too. For the last trip Griffin was sobbing and it was so hard to leave.

Sam, It really is hard to leave a sobbing child...did you manage to keep dry eyes?

it is so hard to do...the one thing that keeps me going is knowing that when I am gone she gets some real good one on one time with her daddy....they need that without mommy around.

AZLB, Thank-you so much for your comment. I love that point of view. I'm going to remember that the next time I have to go away. Smiles, Jody
