Alabu Skin Care #Giveaway

How it all started. The story of Alabu Natural Skin Care.

On a sunny winter day in 1997, a friend recruited my help for a soap making project. She thought it would be a good chemistry lesson for my home-schooled children. So, we crowded into her kitchen (equipped with goggles and gloves), and learned how alkali combines with oils to make soap.

My friend had to convince me to try the soap. At first, I was a little afraid to try it because the old fashioned soaps I knew growing up were very harsh (they made their own lye from wood ashes). Thankfully handcrafted soaps have really progressed.

I never realized how drying commercial “soaps” were until I tried our handmade goat milk soap (I have learned most commercial “soaps” are actually detergents). I was finally able to get out of the shower without feeling dry and itchy or like my skin shrank. I was hooked on making my own all-natural soap. I started researching, reading, and learning all I could about making the best soap, and the more I learned, the more I was sure I never wanted to use commercial “soaps” again. I started to read the ingredients on commercial soap labels—yikes!!!  —Maryclaire Mayes, Founder

Alabu Skin Care has many different natural products for those worried about chemicals and detergents in their soaps and other skin care products.  Their products include soaps,  lip balm, body butter and facial moisturizer.

The key ingredient to Alabu’s soap is goat milk which has many beneficial conditioning properties and is safe yet effective for many skin types.

Check out this video on how they make their soap.

MOMMY MOMENT:

I received the Lavender Light cleansing bar, facial moisturizer and the lip balm to review.

I immediately tried out the lip balm since I was having sore, dry lips that day.  Right away I felt soothing relief on my sore lips.  In fact days later my lips are still nice and smooth and moisturized.

The facial moisturizer left my face feeling smooth and soft and made my face feel great for the rest of the day.  I sometimes neglect my face and don’t pamper it as much as I should but the facial moisturizer definitely left my skin feeling pampered.

To be honest, I don’t like scented body soaps, moisturizers or lotions so I actually didn’t try the soap since the scent was just too strong for me.  But you can read some testimonials of their soaps HERE.
