When Daddy is away

When daddy is away,

the house makes strange noises,

the phone rings – for him,

and the days seem much longer.

When daddy is away,

the bathroom smells better,

the loud snoring is gone,

and there are no dirty socks to pick up.

When daddy is away,

something breaks down,

the kids have melt downs,

and mommy tries not to feel down.

When daddy is away,

there is less laundry,

no frosted bacon flakes,

and no loud TV commercials.

When daddy is away,

the children get sick,

and mommy gets sick,

and it is not a surprise.

When daddy is away,

we smile,

because we remember why we do not actually hate

the smelly bathroom, the loud snoring, the dirty socks, the extra laundry, the strange grocery purchases, or the loud commercials…quite as much as we thought we did.

(Miss ya babe, hope you are having a blast in Nunavut! P.S. You ROCK! Thanks for the many ways you show your love to our little girls.)

Need ideas for when a parent travels?

It is great to see you recognize the quality of life when the dad is away, but also the quality of life when he returns and completes the family.

What a sweet post! I have to say though that hubs just left today for a conference, and will be away for 4 nights. I am totally looking forward to a snore-free night tonight!! He went away fro three weeks last winter and our house was spotless the entire time!! LOL

Oh how I know this...all too well. Hope you feel better soon (nothing worse than being sick when you're solo) and that you can have groceries delivered (this saved me on sick weeks)! xoxo

All I can say is that this flu better pass quickly. My 6 year old made sandwiches for herself and her little sister because as soon as I opened the fridge I had to make a mad dash for the bathroom :( Thanks for your comment.
