First Day Back-To-School Lovable Lunch #Bento

Hard to believe summer holidays are over and my girl goes back to school today. I may be odd, but I’m not one of the moms who is jumping up and down today…I’m going to miss my girl.

The one thing that makes me happy though is that Back-To-School means it’s once again time to pack lunches…but not just any lunches, LOVABLE LUNCHES!

Kate, like many other young children is a little anxious about heading back to school. I hope this lunch helps her to feel very loved today. It’s something little I can do that is so worth it if it makes her smile! (I made her a Lovable Lunch for the first day of school last year too!)

Her lunch (and snacks for the day) include:

  • Cottage cheese
  • Nutrigrain bar cut in circles
  • Flower made from orange slices & a raspberry, celery with cheese whiz stem & kiwi leaves.
  • Grapes
  • Flower sandwich with pepperoni and cheese and a yogurt covered raisin for the center
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • & of course a little note and her cloth napkin.

She brings a Thermos bottle of water along and some tomato juice.

This Lovable Lunch is packed in the new Launch System from PlanetBox.

What are some of your kids favorite things to bring to school for lunch?

Question: Does anyone know how I can keep guacamole from going brown? I would love to send it to school since it is one of her favorite snacks to eat but she will not eat it if is is brown…

That’s a great lunch! For guacamole, I make sure I put some lime juice in the mix, then push parchment paper or plastic wrap down onto the top of the guac. It’s not pretty, but it keeps it from browning :)

Love your lunches! Beautiful! I do the same with my Little One’s lunches!
To keep guac from going brown, leave the pit in the center of the guac! It slows down the oxidation process (or so I’ve been told). It always works for me :) It doesn’t stop it from eventually turning brown, but it certainly slows it down.

It’s beautiful! (Now I feel guilty for what I threw together this morning for my 3 daughters!) LOL
As for the guacamole turning brown, if you store it in an air tight container & add some lemon juice, it should help. Good luck!

Hello Jody:) I can answer the guacamole question since we’re here in Mexico:) If you have lime juice added into the guacamole (here’s it’s a staple) it should stay good for a few hours. Also if you have it wrapped with syran wrap so absolutely NO air can touch it, it also stays mostly green. Also another idea, but not really for school, is to keep the avocado pit in the bowl with the guacamole. So there are 3 ways to keep your guacamole looking and tasting great hours or even a day after you make it. Did you know you can even freeze guacamole? I haven’t, but I have heard it works.

I love buying wholly guacamole and it comes in 4 packages, so I freeze the other 3. It does work Amazing!!! I love making guacamole too, but the bought stuff comes in super handy when I’m in a bind or rush! Thanks so much for your tips, Guacamole is Kate’s absolute FAVORITE snack food.

Re: Guacamole – just like apples, you can use a little extra lemon or lime juice when you make it to keep the avocado from turning brown when you first cut it (use plastic, apparently that helps, too).

Then, the major reason it turns is exposure to air. When I make it, I press plastic wrap right on top – no air space. A bit messy taking the plastic off, but worth it if you want green not brown. Also, the last time I made it, instead of sour cream I used whipping cream, and it lasted longer as well… (strange, though, since the sour cream would have been more acidic, so you’d think it would protect like the lime juice does – hm, maybe I should stir in the lime juice at the last second next time, and maybe my first sentence of this comment should be disregarded – though I got that from recipes/info on the net…. )

That little lunch is so cute! You can always get the little Wholly Guacamole Lunch Snack packs and put them in there. Then it’s only 100 calories and in a pack that doesn’t turn brown.

SO cute. I’ve read (can’t attest to the veracity of the fact, because I haven’t tried it), that if you add a little lemon or lime juice it will stop it from browning.
