We Day Winnipeg ~ TELUS and Free the Children help youth to change the world! #WeDay #TelusForWeDay

Earlier this week I was honored to be in attendance at Free the Children’s We Day Winnipeg which took place at the MTS Centre.

There were so many amazing moments throughout the day, one of which I will remember for a lifetime. President Mikhail Gorbachev spoke to the audience (through an interpreter).  Free the Children Founder Craig Kielburger was on stage with him and I caught a bit of the memorable moment on camera.

“I also want all of you, all the boys and girls here, to have great friends…that’s very important in life.” ~President Mikhail Gorbachev

I was in awe that 18,000 youth could be screaming at the sight of Lights and Shawn Desman one moment and be in complete silence while Mikhail Gorbachev spoke.

We Day

There were so many touching stories throughout the day and the talent was came together to make this day come together did not go unnoticed.

I got to meet 3 youth who have a desire to change the world. Each of these youth took part in the TELUS, Earn Your Way to We Day initiative and got to be part of the TELUS Crew documenting We Day Winnipeg.

Not only did TELUS give $1 to Free The Children for each submission and have participants entered in a random draw to become part of the TELUS Crew would document and share their experience at We Day events across Canada, they also launched a second campaign to encourage youth to upload a video to telusforweday.com describing how they would partner with a local charity to make a positive change in their community.

The top ideas will be selected by Free The Children and TELUS, with the winning youth receiving a $20,000 contribution to put their idea into action. With the support of its customers, TELUS’ Phones for Good and Earn Your Way to We Day initiatives will collectively generate up to $750,000 for Free the Children*** to support youth empowerment and social change in Canada.

Watch out world…there are now 18,000 more youth who want to CHANGE THE WORLD!

TELUS also launched a Phones for Good campaign on September 7, giving $25 from the sale of every TELUS Samsung Galaxy SIII or Samsung Ace Q to Free the Children.
