Giving Back #WordlessWednesday (LINKY)

As a blogger, my children are blessed with getting products to try out all year long. It is important to me that my girls also learn the importance of giving back.

This Christmas my assistant Angela and I decided that instead of giving our children the gifts we received for our Gift Guide, we would let our children give the gifts to a local charity called Steinbach Community Outreach. My 7 year Kate old decided to give many of the gifts she received for her birthday as well, it was not easy for her, but she said that other kids needed stuff more than she did.

The $200 Mattel Barbie house (not pictured) was donated earlier this month to the local Kids In Care Christmas party that was put on for all the children living in foster homes in our region. It was used as a door prize. I was informed that a little 5 year old girl won it and it made her very happy!

  1. Wonderful! Love it that your 7 year old parted with her own birthday gifts :)

Thank you for linking up at my WW

  2. I am really working on the concept of giving with my 2 year old too. She’s a little young but is starting to grasp the concept that some kids don’t have the things that she does….

  3. What a beautiful way to teach your children to give.. :) We have our presents under the tree and our little ones give one of their presents to charities every year.

  4. What a great idea – share the love around!

  5. What a fabulous gift to give your own children, the gift of selflessness!! I’m sure you and Angela feel very proud of them!

  6. Amazing! Good on you and your children! It reminds me of when I was a little girl. Each year my Grandmother would take me to her company Christmas party where Santa would hand out gifts to all the children. Following the party, my Grandmother would always take me by a local McDonald’s to donate the toy to the Salvation Army Toy Drive.

  7. that’s great!

  8. Good for you, Jody! That is such an amazing thing to do! Love it! Blessings for you and your family this Christmas season. xo

    • Thanks Christine! I can’t help but smile when I think of all the little boys and girls who will have a smile on their face come Christmas morning…I got a doll in a Christmas hamper when I was a little girl. It was the best present ever, and to this day am so thankful to whoever the kind person was who donated it. It made my Christmas and whole year extra special.

  9. What a great idea – love the idea of a 5 year old winning the dolls house!

  10. Jody, that’s amazing and feels great! We talked about it @ P&G and we did the same with our kids this year and so blessed to be able to! Thanks for sharing!

    • That is awesome! When my 7 year old found out that a little girl got the Barbie house, she actually had tears in her eyes and said that she prayed the right little girl would get the gift. It melted my heart!

  11. All linked up ty for hosting.

  12. That is amazing!!! What a great thing to see- bloggers giving back!!

  13. That’s wonderful! I donated a ton of baby stuff, my church does a baby playpen every year and since I had a ton of unopened and brand new baby stuff (that was not going to get used!) I donated what I could.

  14. Patricia Rosendahl says:

Bless you for all that you do! Merry Christmas!

  15. What a blessing you have been in the lives of others. Lovely post!

    Merry Christmas.

    • Thanks Pam, I’m glad that I am able to give back. As a child I know how much it meant to get a special Christmas gift from someone who donated to the community Christmas hampers. I will never forget what it meant to me.

  16. that’s great :)

  21. Awww! That’s so awesome!

  22. Jody, you and Angela are 2 cool mamas. Really a lovely idea and will “make” Christmas for some families who can’t “make it” themselves. It’s fantastic too that the children are truly happy with what they are doing – the smiles are contagious. I can explain to my kids and they will give because they understand that it’s important to share with those less fortunate, but they don’t always seem happy about it. Happy holidays to you and your family.

  23. I love this idea. Geez, I thought we got a lot of stuff to test out. That is a mountain of toys. I just bought the Barbie house. No doubt that was a super door prize for that little girl. My heart breaks for kids still in foster care this Xmas. Thanks for caring.

  24. Wow, that’s a lot of toys. Thanks for the linky.

  25. How awesome that you chose to donate!! Love that!!

  26. How very kind. It’s so wonderful to read posts like this, it makes my day brighter.

  27. What a wonderful lesson to teach your children. My girls have been donating for years but lately they have been a little stingy. I think it’s time to have a chat and to open up their hearts a little more. You have wonderful kind children. You must be so proud. Rachel xx
