Barbie was first introduced in 1959 by Ruth Handler, co-founder of Mattel. This plastic doll is still inspiring and encouraging young girls today. I remember playing with these dolls when I was young and now my daughter loves to play with them at Grandma’s with her cousins.

My girls would love this. They are 6 and 9 and never have enough Barbies. My youngest daughter’s favourite is Princess Tori because her name is Tori. Myself, I remember having wigs for the Barbies when I was a child so the Barbies could have hair after we cut it off. Luckily my daughters haven’t cut any hair yet.

I grew up in the 60s. I only had one Barbie, and even that was a cast-off of one of my friends, who had dozens of them! The Barbie I got had short blonde hair, lined cat-eyes, and her legs didn’t bend. I would have given anything for one of the new ones with long, flowing hair and bendy-legs. Now, I sure wish I had that old Barbie! She’d probably be worth something today!
