Don’t Let Brown Bananas Go To Waste – Banana Vanilla Peanut Butter Smoothie

Do you often find that you have bananas going brown on the counter?  Don’t let them go to waste, just pop them into your freezer to use another day in a Smoothie!

As warmer weather has set in and the end of year is approaching my kids are arriving home from school “starving”, nosing around for something to eat.  Left to their own devices they’d choose unhealthy options and I’d end up dealing with a child on a sugar rush.

To prepare for the dire post-school hunger I’ve taken to freezing my fruits as they begin to edge past the fresh stage.  As long as I have milk or Greek yogurt on hand I can whip up a healthy fruit smoothie in minutes!

One of our current favorites is a Banana Vanilla Peanut Butter Smoothie.  It’s packed with delicious goodness and protein which makes me feel good about it as a filling snack choice.

Banana Vanilla Peanut Butter Smoothie

Ingredients:

  1. 1 cup of milk
  2. 1 banana
  3. 2/3 cup peanut butter
  4. 2 tablespoons vanilla
  5. 1-1/2 cup ice

Preparation:

  1. Combine all ingredients into blender and pulse on high for 15 seconds until you reach your desired consistency
  2. Pour into desired glass and garnish with banana slice

There it is, the simple solution that saves you throwing out fruit and satisfies anyone looking for a delicious snack.

  1. Thank you for having me on this fabulous blog today, it’s an honour to be included.

  2. That sounds great and I am going to try it. Also, when my bananas start getting ripe, I peel them, cut them in half, and freeze them. Then you can eat them like a popsicle . I get craft sticks, wash them and stick the banana on them too if I can remember. The children LOVE them. If you thaw them out, they are mush….. great for smoothies but not much else. Just know you will eat them frozen once they go into the freezer. I also cut them up like thick chips. They are great to just pop in your mouth frozen.

  3. Bananas and Peanut butter 2 of my sons fave I’ll definitely have to give them a try

  4. My kids would love this.

Yum! Good way to clear the guilt of getting rid of ripe, ripe bananas. You can only make so much banana bread & muffins.

  6. This looks great! I bet my husband would like it!
