Capture Your Child’s First Day of School Story!

Capture Your Childs 1st Day of School Story

We all have a picture of our first day of school, standing by the yellow bus with our new backpack and lunch box in tow. It’s a classic pose that brings many of us back to our youth, back to the days of 35 mm film. With the advance in digital photography that we have seen over the past 10 years, people have been taking more and more pictures, but are we using those images to really tell the story of our lives?

I’ve been challenging myself over the past few years to take pictures that capture more of the details I know will most likely be forgotten 10-20 years from now and with September just around the corner I challenge you to do the same.

Here are a few different ways you can tell your child’s story:

1st Day of School

Try to capture all the little details of the first day. Getting ready, walking to school, playing on the structure, walking into the school etc…

Walking to 1st Day of School

1st Day of School Playground

Remembering their like and dislikes. I really like this one because as a working mother of three children I find myself constantly forgetting things like which child loved Nemo at the age of two or who used to say Dollar-gramma instead or Dollarama? (I know bad mom right?)

1st Day of School likes and dislikes

Other things that are great to capture are detail shots of particulars things like a painting they love, their favorite teddy bear, maybe the game winning ball from last spring’s baseball league or a sheet of music from their favorite piano song.

You might even want to consider making and album, scrapbook or digital photo frame of your images. But most of all have fun! All these pictures will not only help you remember and cherish all the little things that make your child unique but will also make great conversational pieces in the future.

Great idea! Very creative and it's something your child would enjoy looking back on and showing to family and friends.

I think this is such an awesome idea! My son started pre-school last year and I really did was a photo with him holding a 'my first day of preschool' sign. Going to make sure I capture his first day of school moments every year from now on.
