I’m pretty bad when it comes to keeping up with the latest art trends. However, with that being said, it is not hard to realize that lions are “in” when a small crowd of people ask you for a painting of one of these gorgeous animals. In the last couple months I have painted/drawn three lions, all in different styles, sizes, and colors.
Painting and Drawing Lions
As always, no painting or drawing is perfect. This first lion is a cop out from Pinterest, far from the artistic detail and beauty of its original. Being as thrifty individual, I often try to entice people to do my bidding by offering to draw a picture of their choosing in lieu of paying cash. Though my hair remained the same dirty blonde after a failed attempt at a box of hair dye, my helpful friend still received this colorful sketch of a lion. Can you see the hair dye smudge?
This second picture was a spur of the moment painting. My paint brush was still wet with orange paint from a different painting and I wiped it on a scrapbooking paper. Perhaps it’s the years of day dreaming or the hours of cloud watching that allow me to see a messy blotch of paint as a lion head. Fifteen minutes later I had it painted and drying. Not sure what to do with it yet, any ideas?
Now, I saved the best for last! This is my favorite one by far. One of my friends just graduated and I thought this would be a nicer gift than a Walmart card. I must confess, this lion is a mix between a drawing I found on Google Images and Simba from the wonderful Disney movie Lion King. I painted the background brown, but brown can be so boring. So I snatched the rest of the pot of coffee, went outside and enjoyed soaking in the sun as the canvas soaked in the coffee. After it dried, I used a ball point pen and started sketching the lion. My friend was happy and my room smelt like coffee for a week. Overall, a win-win.
Teah is my cousin, I am happy to feature some of her artwork here on Mommy Moment. Sometimes Teah will share pictures of her art that is available for sale – stay tuned. ~Jody

I really love all your sketches. You are so talented. One of my adult daughters loves lions but I did not know they are the 'In ' thing.
