I used to make my own cards all the time. My sister had a card club that was held once a month and we would spend our time creating beautiful handmade cards. We used stamps a lot and I slowly acquired more and more of them. After a while she moved away and I stopped making cards and grew an interest in cake decorating instead. But with that, I had a bunch of stamps that I had never even used. What was I to do with them? Use them in cake decorating, of course and make a Stamped Flower Cake! I was very excited when I first saw this technique being used. The possibilities are endless.
Here is a picture of my cakes before they are covered in fondant. Very important for any cake design is to have a good base. Without it, everything else falls short!
It is also very important that the stamps you use are new. You don’t want non-edible residue leftover from any ink that was used previously.
Use clean sponges to very lightly dab food coloring onto the stamp. You can also use a small paint brush to apply the coloring onto the stamp as well. Roll out a small piece of fondant on the side to practice with application. Then with very light pressure, stamp the sides of your cake. Start at the back of the cake so that if there are any mistakes no one will notice!
I had so much fun making this cake. I hope you have fun trying it too!
