If you have never tried yuca fries, also known as cassava fries, you really need to try them. We tried them for the first time at a Brazilian restaurant and we knew we had to start making them at home. Yuca fries make a great side dish, often in place of a potato.
- Yuca (cassava) root
- salt (I use pink Himalayan salt)
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
- Remove the peel from the yuca, cut the yuca in 2 or 3 pieces to fit in a pot of boiling water.
- Boli for about 15 minutes or until a fork can prick into the yuca easily.
- Cut the boiled yuca into fries and place on a greased (with lard) pan. Sprinkle with salt (and other spices if desired).
- Bake at 425 for about 20 minutes flipping half way through.
The yuca (cassava) is a root – we do not have it available at all our local stores, but we have been able to pick it up from Sobeys.
Yuca fries pair well with a lot of foods – we love having them with grilled meat.
Many people love to eat their yuca (cassava) fries with a dip made of an equal mix of ketchup and mayo.
I do not eat regular potatoes, so these yuca fries are another delicious side dish that I can enjoy.
