I also have a similar recipe that asks for a tsp of baking powder and a few drops of vanilla. Before rolling up the crescents I sprinkled a brown sugar and cinnamon over the dough. It adds just a touch of sweetness.

We use pressed dry cottage cheese but also add creamy milk and homemade yogurt to the cottage cheese so its not to dry. I think the yogurt gives it extra flavor.

Fun to see old recipes coming back around. I have been making these since the mid-1970's with huge success. A few tip: 1) Use small curd cottage cheese 2) Helpful for new bakers to know the dough is STICKY 3)Roll into 3 "dinner plate" circles (OK to use extra flour) for 12 crescents from each dough ball = 36 crescents in your full yield 4) These freeze well - but DON'T ice until thawed

What kind of cottage cheese should we use? The dough doesn't look clumpy, do you cream it before mixing? Or is it Pressed Dry cottage cheese? Thanks!

Just the regular cottage cheese (not the dry stuff) and no you do not have to cream it - it mixes in with the dough and is not clumpy when baked - they are so so yummy!!!
