TEACHING CHILDREN TO HAVE A HEART OF THANKFULNESS

In a world of impulse buying and technology, everything a child could want is at their fingertips. It can be challenging to teach your kids to have a heart of thankfulness, but is definitely something the world needs to come back to.

TEACHING CHILDREN TO HAVE A HEART OF THANKFULNESS

LEAD BY EXAMPLE :

The best way to teach your kids to be thankful is to model it yourself. Be thankful for anything and everything in your life. Show thankfulness to your spouse for what they do, say thank you when your child cleans their room and be thankful for what you have. The more you have a heart of thankfulness, the more your children will as well.

VOLUNTEER :

It’s easier to be thankful for what you have when you see that you could have less. Have your kids and family volunteer at a soup kitchen, homeless shelter, or another place where they can see the lives of people who have less than them. Teach them to help others and be thankful for what they do have.

WRITE THANK YOU NOTES :

Your child is never too young or too old to write a thank you note. When they get a gift or something special, sit down with your child and help them write a thank you note to that person. Writing a thankful note teaches your children to acknowledge what others do for them.

HAVE A FAMILY THANKFULNESS DAY :

Take one day a week to show your family your thankfulness. You can go around the circle saying something you are thankful for the person next to you or draw names and say something you are thankful for that person.

Thankfulness starts with you and in the home. If you want your children to have a thankful heart, show them what that means in your thoughts, actions, and life.
