TRYING TIMES: HOW TO STAY STRONG WHEN YOU FEEL LOST #FuelYourAwesome

Trying times happen to everyone. When you are a mom it can be especially hard to stay strong when you feel lost and don’t know how you are going to get through your situation.

Financial troubles, sickness, relationship issues and parenting struggles are just some of the things that can all take their toll on us.

I’ve shared some encouragement for the exhausted mom. Today I decided to share my tips for how to stay strong even when you feel lost in those trying times.

TRYING TIMES: HOW TO STAY STRONG WHEN YOU FEEL LOST

1 – LET GO OF PERFECTION – Realize that this is a season and it’s ok if things are not exactly as you would like them. The house may not be as clean as you would like and you may not be able to be involved in everything that you were before – it’s ok! It’s important to take care of your mental health during tough times and letting go of perfection is the first step.

2 – SELF CARE – no matter what you are going through, you need to remember to take care of yourself. You may not have time to go to the spa for a whole day and maybe the thought of going out seems overwhelming, but you have to do something. Go outside, walk to get the mail or even take some deep breaths throughout the day.

One thing I do is stretch before I leave my bedroom in the morning. I also take a few minutes each morning in the midst of the chaos to make myself a mug of bulletproof coffee, pray and meditate. Now let’s be real – sometimes I’m sipping that bulletproof coffee and praying as I’m driving the kids to school, but I make it work.

If you have never heard of bulletproof coffee (you know, the coffee that you blend together with butter and oil) or the bulletproof lifestyle – taking care of  yourself, mind and body – it’s worth looking into. I find that the bulletproof coffee gives me more energy that lasts instead of making me crash and it helps me have clarity of mind throughout the day.

3 – LET YOURSELF SMILE – Play uplifting music, watch an old movie or spend some time coloring. It’s ok to smile when things are tough, in fact, it can help you feel more positive and hopeful.

4 – CHOOSE TO FORGIVE YOURSELF – When tough times arise people often think about things they did wrong or things they did not do. This is the time to let that go, move on and forgive yourself. Going through hard times is easier without carrying the burden of regrets.

5 – TURN OFF YOUR PHONE AND TV – Go to bed a few minutes earlier and leave the phone out of your bedroom and the tv off. It is good to have a break from electronics and sometimes the best way to start is by having your room as a quiet peaceful place to retreat to.

6 – SELECT YOUR FOCUS – Yes, what you are going through is hard. You may not have any control over the road you are walking, but you do have the choice of the view you see. As hard as it is, try to see the positive. Positive self talk builds up your emotional strength and the more you train yourself to see the good in the situation, the brighter things become.

7 – HIT THE RESET – Sometimes after people have gone through really trying times, they just want to hit the reset button. They want to get healthy both mentally and physically but don’t know how or where to start.

I need to focus more on my self care. I don't take the time to just relax and do something for me.
