Toddler Activities & Link-up

For today’s Montessori Moment I decided to post about some Toddler type activities.
Our little Belle is just over a year and a half and she already loves to work like her big sister.
One activity that was introduced this weekend was blowing bubbles! Her Kookum (grandma in Cree) had the pleasure of introducing this work.

It was a such a pleasure to watch her continue to try until she finally got it!

What persistence!

Just look at that beautiful bubble! She kept repeating the word bubble!

I have found this activity helpful in getting young children to understand the concept of blowing. I introduce this activity before some practical life activities such as blowing your nose.

Belle has really enjoyed working with her Object Permanence Box with Tray. She started using this material around 9 months of age (with very close supervision as it can be a chocking hazard!) The Object Permanence Box with Tray is a box with two holes and a tray and one ball. It develops hand-eye coordination and indirectly allows the child to experience object permanence.
Although Belle has pretty much mastered this work, she often works with this for 20 minutes before moving on to something else.

A new activity she enjoys in spooning 2 different colored sets of bears into the matching cups. Once she was able to do this activity by using just her hands I introduced the spoon. She LOVES this!

A very simple puzzle that we I had out a few months ago has again become a favorite. She likes to put the circle into the space and say blue (She also has a puzzle like this that has 3 circles in a row from smallest to largest she loves that puzzle too, but I did not have it out this week).

This Stack and Sort Board has been worked with for hours! She loves to sit by her mat and place the colors/shapes in the correct spot. She is quite funny sometimes and if she notices me watching her she will purposely start to put a shape on the wrong peg, smile an me and say nahhhhh and then proceed to put it on the correct peg.

Wow, I could have gone on and on with this post, but now it’s YOUR turn!

What activities do you do with your infant/toddler?

Please leave a comment or link-up to a post. Remember to link to the actual post and not the blog home!

I've never done it, but I hear having a child blow a candle out with their nose help with nose blowing, too. Of course, extreme care and adult supervision is advised. ;) BTW, this post makes me want to get out and be more active with my little ones learning... so much of the time I'm focused on homeschooling my first grader than I forget about educational activities for my toddler. Thank you! ♥ Michelle

Wow what an awesome post! I'm a child development grad so I can really appreciate all that the kiddos get from these activities! I have a 16 month old and I've been wanting to work more with learning to use a spoon. The bears is a great idea! Will definitely have to give it a try!I found you on POM Meme Monday! I would love for you to visit me too :)
