Before I was a Mom

I think we have all had those moments when we were younger, when we saw someone doing something we thought was strange. We say to ourselves, “I will never do that when I am a mom or when I am older!”  But what we don’t realize is that a lot of those things are inevitable.
Here are four thing that I said I would never do when I became a mom. Guess what? I do them regularly.

1. Like home decorating stores. I don’t know why I felt this way, but every time I used to go to a home decor store,  I would say to my mom in a very ornery tone: “I will never like these stores they are so boring!”  Now it’s like a toy store!  The rugs, the lamps, even decorated bowls can make me happy on a bad day. Don’t get me started with dish towels and table cloths. What is there not to love?

2. Take my kids to school in my pajamas. This was horrifying to me. I saw moms do this when I was in school.  How hard is it to get dressed in the morning? Very hard! Seriously, I have three kids to get out of bed and fix breakfast to. Only one of my children goes to school and I still find myself  short on time in the morning.  Also I am going to be back home three seconds later. So what difference does it make?

3. Open up a box of fruit snacks for my screaming child in the grocery store before I buy them. I always thought it was so tacky when I witnessed mothers doing this. I could not believe it.  Can’t they even wait until they are out of the store?  Until you have had a screaming baby trying to stand up in the front of the cart, not having anything in your purse to stop the insanity.  Then you realize how easy it would be to open one of  the two hundred boxes of fruit snacks within arms range. The temptation is unavoidable! (I obviously pay for the fruit snacks at the end)

4. Complain to a cashier at the grocery store when being over-charged on an item by thirty cents or less. When I used to witness this happening, it would also drive me crazy!  It is only thirty cents. Why do you care? It takes forever for the cashier to recheck it or to call the manager over. It is just thirty cents! Thirty cents is a lot. It also adds up very fast. Seriously in these times every cent matters. Now I not only do this, but I price match as many items as possible, even when there is only a 5 cent difference. I save a lot of money this way.

All these things make me laugh now. Being a mom really changes things.
