by Carly,
We had a hilarious discussion while eating dinner the other day. I tried to make it a teaching moment I really did, but alas it ended up just being a laughing moment instead. Which lets admit it, those are some of the best kind of moments. Don’t you think?
You see my 5 year old gets the words tomato and potato confused and mixed up with each other quite regularly. She is a very bright little girl and does not struggle with other words too much. I understand that they sound a lot alike but when she told me she did not want the potatoes on her Taco I thought okay we are going to get this right! I am going to teach her the difference. The following is the conversation that took place To the best of my recollection. Which lets face it can be quite forgetful. I blame my lack of sleep on a regular basis. Anyways here is how it went.
Me: “Those are not potatoes those are tomatoes on your taco. Le me ask you some questions. What are french fries made out of?”
5 yr old: “Tomato’s”
Me:” nope they are made of potatoes. What is red and makes Ketchup?”
5 yr old: “Potato’s”
These questions went on with little success for a little while when I decided to ask her one more question.
me :” What Is brown, grows in the ground, and makes chips?
5 yr old (with her cute thinking face): Tapato’s!!
My husband and I had a hard time hiding our laughter! She had come up with a perfect solution! A answer to all of the questions. A mix of the two! Tapato’s! I think that word will be a new Websters dictionary word for sure! I love it! She is so adorable and makes me smile every day. I love how her little mind works.
What silly words do your kids make up or have trouble with?
