Rest

By Carly,

Sometimes it is so nice to lounge around with nothing to do. Not worrying about all the things that have yet to be done on the to do list. Nobody hollering for sippy cups and toys. Not that it ever lasts longer than a minute  or anything, but it is still nice.

I just witnessed my husband sleeping soundly while two of our daughters were sitting on his stomach playing on the laptop computer. I wish I could do that. I also wish I would have taken a picture. I can never sleep through anything and I wake up at the slightest of noise. I also have the hardest time going back to sleep once awake. Perhaps it is my iphone’s fault, it stares at me taunting me to check my e-mail at all hours of the night (even though it’s all junk mail at that time anyways).

I recently went to a baby shower of a neighbor who is having a baby girl very soon. The presents were adorable and she was so excited. The only advice I could think to give her was to get sleep while you can! Get lots of it! If only sleep could be stockpiled like an animal who gathers nuts for the winter. Too bad it does not work that way.

The Holidays are upon us which means a lot of hustling and bustling to get to every family event and party. Just thinking about it makes me tired. Both my husband’s side of the family and mine live near by which means running around with our heads cut off every holiday. I love seeing family and watching my kids interact with grandparents and cousins, but it sometimes wears me out!

We don’t have a fireplace, but one of my dreams is to have one some day. I wish I could drink hot chocolate by the fireplace while resting and enjoying my families company and perhaps drifting off to sleep with nobody poking at my face, piling on top of me; perfect peace and harmony.

I guess for now I will have to settle for the t.v channel that shows a fireplace all night on Christmas Eve.
