A Stray Pet

by Carly,

My daughters have a deep desire to have a pet. They want a pug and they would name her Lou Lou. They have all the details down from where she would sleep, to who would brush her teeth and fur. They talk about it all the time. Our family of five lives in a small condo and there is just no room for a pet.

Besides I know that I would be the sole caregiver for this dog and would like to wait a few years so my girls can help out as well.

A few days ago while heading out to the car we saw a stray animal that my daughter’s could not help but love. They immediately abandoned their Lou Lou dreams and wanted this duck. He looked so lonely in the cold snow. While I did not let him in the house I did let the  girls feed him some bread.

They were in heaven. So was the duck.

His Quacks made them giggle. So did his waddle. You would have thought he was an elephant or a giraffe at how my daughters were reacting.

I could not help but worry about this duck. He was alone with no friends around him. He ended up staying around for a day or so and then I saw some other ducks that I hope he met up with.

I have never been the one to take in stray pets. I have to admit there was a tiny part of me that wanted to take care of this duck. Imagine all the great blog posts that could have come from having a pet duck in a condo.

My girls are back to images of pugs in their heads, But were happy to help out a duck every once in a while.

What pets do you have? Do your kid’s help out with taking care of them?
