A Day Off

My husband is a school teacher which means he gets some days off of work for various holidays. These days make me so excited! My mind starts running in high speed thinking about all the amazing things we will do in this one day period.

In my dreams
During this day off we will have amazing family bonding time where every child will be tear free and get a long with each other perfectly. Our days activity will be the funnest thing we have ever done and cost little to no money. We will clean the house from top to bottom and get every extra home project done that we have been wanting to do for the last year. We will have time to take a nap watch a movie and of course be able to sleep in as late as we want too.

The Reality
My youngest wakes up screaming at five in the morning thus waking up my other two children. Chaos begins. I stumble downstairs with my crew trying not to wake up my husband who never ever gets to sleep in. I then attempt to lay on the couch.  My one year old has other ideas that include climbing all over me like a jungle gym and requesting various breakfast items. I am still trying to decipher what she says as meaning actual words. So my guesses are always off.

After a few hours of this my husband wakes up and I go crash on the bed tag teaming him because I am still so exhausted from waking up at the crack of dawn.

Once all of us are awake my husband and I try to decide what we are going to do. We are not very good at this. There is a small leak with the faucet in our tub he decides to hurry and fix that so we can do some thing fun.

The faucet is harder to fix than we first thought. Nothing an over priced trip to the hardware store can’t solve. During all of this the kid’s are running around like crazy, still in their pj’s making all sorts of messes in their room including gathering every single toy they have  and throwing it in the middle of the floor to create some type of hibernation cave. at least they are not crying.  That comes seconds later  when the one year old comes in and destroys their creation, hysteria begins.

We finally come to the conclusion at dinner time the faucet can not be fixed by us. The leak is worse than it was before and we will have to call a plumber. I run to the nearest pizza place and come home with a late dinner of pizza and bread sticks and the frustration of having to pay some one to fix something in our home. We end up not being able to get a hold of the plumber, we will have to deal with the leak later…probably on the next day off.

What do you like to do when you have a day off?

My spot!

If we do have a day off, we are usually catching up on organizing, purging, and fixing. We tried to sneak in some time to the park with our little kiddo. Sometimes, we just feel like doing nothing -- basically vegging out but that is not possible with a 4.5 year old.

ManOfTheHouse told me last week that he was taking Monday off (you know, President's Day... when all the kids were home too...) - I suggested that we would accomplish a lot more and enjoy our time more if he took Tuesday off instead. He stuck with the Monday plan and we had a decent day... but by the end of it all I'm sure he was wishing he'd gone with my plan!

Your husband's day off sounds like our weekends. We always have big ideas on what we want to do but they work out, instead we end up doing chores, running errands, fixing things, and spending way too much money.

My husband doesn't get many days off..so we really try NOT to make any plans. But then he starts "organizing" and "fixing"...so I make him go to the park!

I plan a ton of thing, but mostly we do none of it. Kids have better plans....
