A lesson from my 7 year old

A lesson can truly come at any moment.

lesson

Yesterday evening our family was driving back from the shopping mall. The vehicle was quiet as everyone was pretty exhausted from the hustle and bustle of the past few days.

Kate, age 7, broke the silence. “I don’t want any Christmas presents from Santa next year” she exclaimed.

Jane, age 4, “What?!?”

Kate, “Santa can give my presents to another little girl who needs them. I have enough stuff”.

A lesson from my 7 year old

I’m sure this will not be the first lesson I learn from my daughter. Why is it so easy to get caught up in wanting the material things? Why is it a temptation to want to keep up with the Jones’?

Sure, my husband and I have shown our daughters the importance of giving, we feel volunteering and giving to others is very important, but to be willing to ask for nothing for Christmas?

That is not quite so easy.

Thanks Kate for reminding me that we really do have a lot. We have so much to be thankful for. I’d be ok with Santa giving my presents to another family next year too.

What lessons have you learned from your children lately?

That is precious! I can tell she took awhile to think about it too.

Thank you for sharing!

Wow! That was so generous of her to just come out of no where and say that. My oldest is three and he always shows me how to appreciate the little things that I often overlook.
