Pirate and Princess Summer on Disney Junior!

This last winter our kids took skating lessons.  At the end of their skating lessons, they held a performance for all the parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to come watch.  This year, the finale performance was Disney themed.

About a month before the finale, we got a letter saying that each age group would be performing to music from different Disney movies and shows.  My kids excitedly talked about which group they would be in.  The next week, they got their assignments.  My son was SUPER excited to discover that he was in the Jake and the Neverland Pirates group.  This meant that I had 2 weeks to put together a costume…. and I don’t sew.  Not wanting to spend a lot (and knowing that they would need warm clothes underneath to keep them comfortable on the ice) I searched the web for home made pirates costumes and this is what we came up with:

My son was thrilled and wanted to wear his eye patch that we have a home, but I convinced him that it would be better to leave the eye patch at home.  I was pretty excited when parents commented to me on my creativity.

We constantly find our kids dressing up as pirates, or in the case of my daughter — a Pirate Princess (since she can’t decide!)

Pirate Princess

During July and August, your little ones can watch episodes of Jake and the Never Land Pirates followed by Sofia the First, weekdays starting at 6:30pm EST.  There will even be a NEW episode every Monday of either Jake and the Never Land Pirates or Sofia the First!

You can also find some new summer games and activities featuring pirates and princesses at DisneyJunior.ca.

Disney Junior will also be airing some great family movies Saturday evenings in July.

This is the perfect opportunity for you to settle in as a family and spend some time together.  If you can’t sit down together, set your PVR’s!

a bugs life

  • Saturday, July 13 at 6pm EST — A Bug’s Life
  • Saturday, July 20 at 6pm EST — Tinker Bell
  • Saturday, July 27 at 6pm EST — the premiere of the brand new Winnie the Pooh movie!

These movies are perfect for us, and since we already have family movie nights on Saturdays, these movies will fall right into our normal schedule.  Do you guys do family movie nights on a regular basis?  Saturday evenings are the one time in our household were eating supper in front of the TV is okay and acceptable.  The kids look forward to these evenings as much as my husband and I do.  I hope we can continue them long into the future!
