What kind of makeup routine do you commit to?

I admit that my makeup routine consists of foundation, a little mascara and some lipstick.  Not exactly something that makes my eyes and other facial features pop.  Part of my problem, is that I don’t know which colors go together when it comes to eye shadow and my skin doesn’t “hold” make-up well, so by the time I am out for a couple of hours it looks like I’m not wearing anything at all.  So I need someone to give me makeup that works together AND have it all in a handy compact that allows me to touch up during the day.
