Do you remember YOUR first backpack?

We all can remember our first days of school. There was so many new things, new clothes, new friends and new school supplies. I am sure we all have stories about our many firsts at school.

Having recently moved my parents, during unpacking I came across my old lunchbox. It was an old brown plastic box that I placed “space” stickers all over. I remember bringing it to kindergarten everyday thinking it was the coolest lunchbox ever.

Then there was the backpack. Yes, we all had them. At the beginning of the year we would go to school on the first day with it overflowing and our mothers would hope and pray that our stuff would come back in one piece. At the time, that backpack was huge, however, upon retrospect it actually was not all that big. It was a plain yellow backpack, with a small pocket in the front. I will not forget the day my mom brought it home and surprised me with it. She shared with me that this was the bag I would bring back and forth to school everyday. Seeing that yellow bag made me full of excitement knowing that I would be going to school.

Today I can remember my daughter’s first days of school.  Heading off to school with their purple butterfly backpacks.  They were super exited to call that backpack their own. Even their lunch boxes were their own and all the other children wanted to have a cool lunch box. I guess it is just a family tradition to have cool backpacks and lunch boxes.
