Winter Nail Art

Are you ready to get cozy with some blue and white hues from Essie? I tried out four wintery colours this week from various Essie collections to make these designs.

Winter Nail Art

The colours I used are:

  • Bellbottom Blues
  • After School Boy Blazer
  • Midnight Cami
  • Blanc

Winter Essie collection

In the first swirly, abstract design I used Cami and Bell Bottom Blues. The white turned out nice and opaque after two coats, which I appreciated because I don’t like those thin watery whites.

When you look at the bottle of Bell Bottom Blues it looks very shimmery but when I used it on my nails it defiantly lost the glitter that shows in the bottle. Although it wasn’t what I had expected I did like the way it ended up looking on my nails.

I then used After School Boy Blazer in the galaxy nails. It’s the base in the design and looks almost black with just the faintest hints of blue in it. I have done galaxy themed nail designs before but this one is my new favorite. With the added help of a few others essie polishes this design turned out great! You don’t need any thin tips for this design, just a sponge to layer the colours over each other and you’re nails look like the stars.

These soft sponges are great for nail color!

Winter nails

Underneath the designs I do I make sure to always use a base coat. Base coats help your nails stay strong, prevent staining, and keep your nails healthy. Recently I tried out Essie’s first base base coat and found it worked pretty well for me. It dried very quickly after I applied it, which I loved because I’m always eager to get the colour on my nails, but other than that I found it was like most other basecoats; good but not outstanding.

If you don’t use a base coat regularly I would strongly recommend trying one out to keep your nails healthy while still being able to paint them whenever you want.

I loveeee the different shades of blue. You have got my mind thinking about all the different colors I could sponge together for each different season. Beautiful work. Thanks for the heads up on the base coat.

I haven't polished my nails in many years. My husband is wanting me to for something different. I would love to try nail art! Thank you for a great post!

I love the look of those nails. Great idea to match your nails with the season or holiday. Very nice.
