Dealing with sibling rivalry can be a very difficult and discouraging part of parenting. Hearing your children bicker and fight is stomach churning. I wanted to share some ways that you can effectively deal with sibling rivalry without losing your cool.
HOW TO DEAL WITH SIBLING RIVALRY
#1. BE A GOOD MODEL – One of the ways you can deal with sibling rivalry is to be a good model to your kids. If you’re always fighting or provoking a fight, your kids won’t understand how to deal with sibling rivalry. Be a good model in your marriage and in your friendships, but especially with your own siblings.
#2. LET THEM WORK TOGETHER – Separating the children of yours that are fighting isn’t always going to work. Instead, try allowing those siblings to work together on a few projects. Maybe have them clean up the yard together or even wash the dishes together. By working together, they are learning to get along, which is always awesome.
#3. HAVE A FAMILY MEETING – Talking about how each person in the family feels is important. There might be a reason behind your kids fighting. By having a family meeting, you can all get behind the real reason everyone is fighting. Give it a try and see how effective it is for your family.
#4. HELP YOUR CHILDREN LEARN LIFE LESSONS – Maybe your children don’t understand how important their siblings are. By helping your children learn life lessons, you are helping them appreciate their sibling a little more. Later in life, a sibling may be all your children have, which is why it’s important to deal with sibling rivalry now.
#5. HAVE THEM SAY NICE THINGS – Saying nice things about each other may be the one thing that helps. I think it’s important to understand that EVERYONE has good qualities.
Dealing with sibling rivalry may not be fun but it’s possible. What tips would you offer?
