GETTING BACK ON TRACK: A SURPRISING SECRET TO HELP YOU SUCCEED #FUELYOURAWESOME

Getting back on track is never easy. At least I didn’t think it could be. Many of you have been following my health journey over the years and know that I have struggled with being overweight.

Getting back on track

In 2012 I had a wake up call. I had sores on my body. I wanted to be healthy and lose weight because I wanted to live a good quality life with my husband and our daughters.

My husband and I switched to eating Paleo at the start of 2013. In Spring of that year, my grandma died and it was devastating to say the least. She and I were extremely close. (The doily in the photographs was made by her). I’m not exactly sure if it was the grief, but I became obsessed with how I ate and had lost 70 pounds by the Fall of 2014. My sores we gone, I could shop in regular sized clothing stores, I had energy to run around with my kids, I finally felt like life was as it should be in a healthy sort of way.

Our story caught the attention of others and we were featured in a national magazine.

Things seemed so good, so how did I fall off the bandwagon?

Ouch – that was hard to write. I hope you’ll stick with me.

I found myself caught in place of discontent and seemed to be focusing on the negative side of things instead of the positive. I began to feel awkward when I had to bring my own meals places and I felt like our family was not being invited to as many get togethers because we did not eat like everyone else. When I got caught in that way of negative thinking ,everything began to derail.

The pounds slowly began coming back on and before I knew it I was right back where I had begun. I felt like a huge failure. How could I let myself fail. I’m the girl who succeeds at what I do, so how could I get to this point? I figured I would just start over again with doing things how I had back in 2013, I figured that since I had done it once it would be easy to do it again.

Boy, was I wrong.

I tried, I failed.

Then I tried again, and failed again.

What was going on? How was this happening? Why couldn’t I get my act together?

Then, this past Fall, my mother-in-law was in a head-on-collision. Life became all about the basics as we juggled life with kids and being at the hospital daily for months.

I was completely exhausted and overwhelmed with making decisions. I did not really like that we were stuck in the situation life had us in. I had just finished a visit with my mother-in-law and was going to pick up the girls from school. As I was walking down the hospital steps something hit me.

Out of nowhere came a realization.

I needed to simplify my life.

SIMPLIFY

make (something) simpler or easier to do or understand.

SIMPLIFY THE WAY WE EAT

One thing we did was simplify the way we eat. Let me explain, we decided to start out our mornings with drinking Bulletproof coffee. The combination of high quality coffee, grass fed butter and brain octane fuels us and we do not have to think about what to eat for breakfast. We drink as much of it as we want from when we wake up until about 1 or 2 pm.

HOW TO MAKE BULLETPROOF COFFEE (Free Recipe Card here)

  • Brew 1 cup of coffee
  • Add in 1-2 tablespoons of Brain Octane™ (start with 1 tsp. and work up to 1tbsp)
  • Add 1-2 tablespoons grass-fed, unsalted butter or grass-fed ghee
  • Mix it in a blender for about 25 seconds until it is frothy

Most days, my husband comes home for noon hour so we take that time to go for a walk just the two of us since our girls are in school. I absolutely LOVE this one on one time together! (Sometimes we add a spoonful of the Bulletproof Hot Chocolate to our coffee to enjoy while we walk – it’s so yummy and good for you too!) We have salads and meat ready in the fridge to eat in the early afternoon.

You may think it is odd to have the same thing for breakfast and lunch, but in most cultures they do not eat a huge variety like we do in North America and it is amazing how good it feels to not have to make those decisions each day.

This is what we call leftover salad. We use up the veggies from the fridge, cook up some chicken and add homemade dressing. YUM ✨

Along with having many fresh veggies on hand, I have made it a point to have bulletproof snacks available because they are easy to have anywhere on the go. These bulletproof brownie bites or barslemon cookies, lemon shortbread and chocolate fuel bars have high quality fat from brain octane and XCT oil which really help with focus and keeps us from getting hungry. It’s great that the ingredients are very delicately processed at low temps so they preserve the natural flavour and all the nutrients.

I typically grab one of these snacks and a bottle of water everyday when I run out the door to pick up the girls from school.

The best part about simplifying the way we eat and including Bulletproof products is that I do not feel hungry and my sugar cravings have died right down.

Now, the only meal we really have to plan now is supper and for that we do our best to make it as healthy as possible, but we also allow ourselves grace.

We can still easily get together with friends for supper, we just do not eat after 8 or 9 pm.  It just really seems to work for our family.

SIMPLIFY THE WAY WE LIVE

Since we had simplified the way we were eating it just made sense to simply some other things in our life too. We got rid of a lot of extra stuff, extra clothes, extra toys, extra activities and it feels good. It is amazing how getting back on track is easier when things are simplified.

It's so easy to go back to hold habits. I'm trying to quit smoking and I now smoke half of what I was smoking, but I'm stuck there. I try so many things, but I need to quit for my health and I feel like such a failure. I need to find a way to approach it in a different angle.

Carole, It is so common for people to put so much pressure on themselves which can cause them to feel like a complete failure if they do not succeed. Making simple goals and simplifying life has helped me in many areas, not only this one. All the best.

It is hard to share, but there is not point in hiding it. It is better to keep going and encourage others along the journey!
