7 GARDENING TRENDS YOU SHOULD TRY

#1)  BACKYARD EDIBLE GARDENING

If you are the type of person who wants to know where their veggies came from or even if you are not, a backyard edible garden is worth considering. You can grow much more than vegetables and you may find that you are successful with fruits, edible flowers, and even a herb garden.

#2)  SUCCULENT MANIA

Succulents have become increasingly popular over the last couple of years and they are hardy little plants that can grow almost anywhere. These types of plants store water, so they are perfect if you are the type of person who forgets about watering every once in a while.

If you are still worried about killing a hearty, succulent plant, why not make a DIY FELT SUCCULENT PLANT that looks beautiful and doesn’t require watering?

#3)  BULB LAYERING

Bulb layering used to happen by accident, but now it is something that you can do on purpose to create a full and rich garden. The key to doing this correctly is to choose bulbs that will bloom at different times throughout the year and then plant them with the largest ones going in first.

#4)  VERTICAL GARDENS

Do you think that you cannot have a garden because you do not have enough space in your yard? Well, you can no longer use that excuse, because you can create a magnificent vertical garden for all of your plants. You can turn the sides of a balcony, pergola, fence, or garage into a beautiful garden space where you can grow vines, flowers, succulents, and even edible plants or vegetables.

#5)  FOLIAGE GARDENS

A foliage garden is completely different than a flower garden. A flower garden deals with colors while a foliage garden concentrates on the textures, plant size, and numerous shades of green. A few wonderful pieces to include in a foliage garden are hosta, ferns, mosses, ornamental grasses, and disporums.

#6)  EXTREME NATURALISM

Extreme naturalism is one of the easiest ways to garden because everything that is found in this garden is natural. You will not have to use concrete or keep the weeds away. Instead, you can let this type of garden grow naturally and watch as it thrives.

If you are interested in a naturalist’s garden, you may enjoy reading the book The Naturalist’s Garden: How to Garden With Plants That Attract Birds, Butterflies, and Other Wildlife.

#7)  STATEMENT PLANTS

Statement plants are ones that will stand out and create a focal point in your garden. Some of the better options for statement plants include bromeliads, cactus, succulents, cordylines, and cycads. Certain statement plants will take up more room than others, so you may want to choose the ones that will not only work best for your space but also the amount of time that you want to spend in your garden. Since these plants can be cared for easily, they will not take up much of your time, so if you are the type of person who only wants to be in their garden once a week, then you may want larger varieties of these plants.

You can choose as many of these gardening trends as you wish, especially if you have been looking for a way to spruce up your existing garden. However, you may want to start with one and get that one completed before you begin on any others.
