WIND DOWN TIME
Just as your baby requires a bedtime and naptime routine, so do you.
You need to allow yourself to wind down prior to the time you will be taking a nap. Often times, moms have a hard time taking a nap when their baby is sleeping, because they are left feeling as though they have a lot to do and can’t spare the time.
The laundry will wait, and you should really let it. Even a half an hour nap can be beneficial to your health. So instead of worrying about the dishes in the sink, set some time aside to practice some deep breathing techniques to get you into the right mindset to nap.
SCHEDULE A NAP
Stick to a scheduled nap. Although when your baby will sleep can be unpredictable, you may have a general idea of when they take their longest snooze. That would be the ideal time for you to catch a nap too.
Stick to a timeframe as well. If you just need a small refresher, a quick 30-minute nap should do the trick, but if you are really lacking good nighttime sleep you may need 90 minutes.
Just remember, that the longer you nap, you may find it harder to wake up without feeling a tad groggy.
HAVE A NAP SPACE
Make sure you are attempting to nap in a quiet and comfortable space.
Creating the right nap environment is very important to ensure that you can get optimal sleep. Have comfortable blankets set up, blackout curtains that you can close and perhaps spray some lavender to help calm you.
There are ways that you can get that much-needed shut-eye. The most important thing is that you give yourself the permission to have a nap because you deserve it.
