We’ve all seen that blue 5-gallon water cooler sitting in the doctor’s office or workplace hallway.
While it is a great place to wet your whistle and catch up with your co-workers, having a 5-gallon water jug sitting in the corner of your kitchen or dining room may not be the decor inspiration you want.
We have seen the homemade covers that people sew which may work well for some people, but if you are looking for something a little different, you may just enjoy today’s little DIY project.
Here is a great way to make a water cooler jug cover.

You might be thinking “Do I NEED a Water Cooler Cover for My Bottle?”
The answer is no.
But this DIY project for your home is a simple and easy way to spruce up a water cooler and make a great looking piece of “art”.
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
- A 5-gallon blue jug (you can pick these up at your local grocery store or some gas stations)
- Wood floor stand with dispenser
- Storage basket side table with lid (I purchased the one pictured below from my local home sense store).
You will want to make sure that the storage basket is reinforced on the inside so that it is able to hold the weight of the plant. Also, make sure that the table is at least the width and height of the water jug so that it fits over the blue jug.
Place the 5-gallon jug into the dispenser.
Then, place the storage basket side table upside down so that it covers the water jug — see?
It’s starting to look better already!
Now you will want to place the lid of the side table onto the upside down basket – like this next photo.
Once that is done, you can pick your flower pot and house plant to display on top of the water cooler jug.
I love the look of this plant because it hangs down and the water cooler cover acts like a plant stand at the same time.
Now when you have guests over, you can all enjoy a cool glass of water, but not have to worry about the water cooler jug destroying the decor of your dining room or kitchen.
